Saving or Exporting a File
OpenOffice.org has a plethora of saving options. The saving process is like any other application, however it will be described here, because it does get a little more in depth than most applications.
The Process
Saving
First have one of OOo's sub components open, here I will be using Writer.
Then click File, and Save As... or alternatively you can press Ctrl+Shift+S.
You will be brought to the Save As window, here you can choose form a number of different formats, and a few options, such as: the file name, where to save it, whether to add the extension automatically, and filtering.
When saving a password you will be brought up to this dialog, simply put in your password and confirmation, and your document will be saved as a password protected file.
From the start you will be saving as the OpenOffice.org Open Document Format for your designated field (Text, Presentations, etc.). However, OOo offers a variety of types.

Exporting as PDF
One of OpenOffice.org's strongest ability is that it can export as PDF, you can either click this icon, give it a file name, and click save. Or you can go through the extended process. At either File > Export... > PDF > Save or simply File > Export as PDF...
