Opening a FileSoftware name : OpenOffice.org
Opening a document ("file") in OpenOffice.org is one of the most common things you will do with the software. It's pretty straight forward, and any way you start up OpenOffice.org you will run into it. There are 3 ways to do it, the first is using the startup application, and clicking on the Open a document... icon. Here is what it should look like:
The second way to load up a file is to use the OpenOffice.org taskbar icon (if it is there) and right click it, and then click on Open Document...
The final way is to open up an application like Writer or Impress, and then click on File > Open... or Ctrl + O. No matter what application you have up to open the document, OOo will figure out which one the file can be edited in.
When you click on one of these 3 buttons, the Open dialog box will come up. It's now a matter of finding the file you wish to open by using the navigation bar on the left, or by browsing the list of directories and files listed on the right. Both will help you navigate around the folders on your computer. If you get horribly lost then just press Cancel and start again, no harm done.
When you see a file that you wish OpenOffice.org to open, then click on the file name. It should highlight like so. (for Ubuntu users, right click on the smaller image and choose "View Image".)
Now press Open and the file will open in the correct application of OpenOffice.org.
