Opening a File

Software name : OpenOffice.org
Software version  : 2.2

Opening a document ('file') in OpenOffice.org is one of the most common things you will do with the software. Its pretty straight forward. You need to click on the menu item that says File and then select Open...

When you release the mouse button a dialog will appear:

fileopen2_1.jpg

Its now a matter of finding the file you wish to open by using the Places list on the left, or by browsing the list of directories and files listed on the right. You can get used to how this system works by clicking on the names of 'places' and directories. This will help you navigate around the folders on your computer. If you get horribly lost then just press Cancel and start again, no harm done.

When you see a file that you wish OpenOffice.org to open, the click on the file name. It should highlight like so (selecting 'sss.odt' as an example):

fileopen3_1.jpg

Now press Open and the file will open in OpenOffice.org.
